The past of future days? DOCTOR WHO heads to AMC…

There’s been much speculation on the future of Doctor Who and the idea that after the deal with Disney+ came to an end, another US streamer might be sought for a collaboration. Well, there IS news.

To be clear, the future of the series is still up in the air beyond the proposed Christmas 2026 special (which is apparently still being written or rewritten depending on rumours you to choose to believe or not).

However, we now know that AMC+ will soon be the home of past episodes in the US. From 11th June,  twelve (no, sir…thirteen!) seasons of the modern incarnation will be available to audiences. Essentially that’s 175 episodes with every Doctor from Eccleston through Whittaker – all their seasons and the specials. At first glance, the deal appears not to include the Ncuti Gatwa era which is still, for the moment, on Disney+.  In the UK all the episodes will remain available on BBC iPlayer.

Doctor Who strengthens AMC+’s position as a destination for premium genre storytelling – curated franchises defined by iconic worlds, passionate fan bases and enduring cultural impact,” said Courtney Thomasma, Executive Vice President of AMC Global Media’s linear and streaming products. “We’re thrilled to welcome the Whoniverse into our home of fandoms, giving longtime fans a reason to return while inviting new audiences to discover one of television’s most beloved franchises.”

Does this lend any weight to the idea that AMC might be a streamer to partner with for NEW episodes?  It certainly can’t hurt, but only time will tell…
