RIP, Hayden Panettiere (Actress, Singer, ‘Cheerleading Hero’)…

Save the Cheerleader, Save the World…

So went the maxim of the cult show, Heroes in which Hayden Panettiere played the titular leader of cheer and empowered Claire Bennet.  Sadly, in real life, the actress has passed away at the relatively young age of 36, around a week short of her 37th birthday.

Panettiere’s breakthrough role may have been as Claire, playing the role for five years between 2006 and 2010… but she already had a very steady career, starting at a young age – less than a year after her birth in1989 – appearing as a toddler in commercials with her mother, actress Lesley Vogel. Her other projects included roles in soap-opera One Life to Live and guest-roles in the likes of Ally McBeal and Malcolm in the Middle.  She also appeared as Juliette Barnes in seven seasons of Nashville between 2012 and 2018. On the big-screen she appeared in diverse feature films including A Bug’s Life (1998) and Remember the Titans (2000).

Her last credited film was Sleepwalker, released earlier this year.

She had a younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, who was born in September 1994 but passed away in February 2023, attributed to an undiagnosed heart condition. In May of 2026, Panettiere released the memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, which charted the ups and downs of her professional and personal life including the loss of her sibling, problems with postpartum depression after having her daughter, Kaya and her addictions to alcohol and nervous-ssytem depressant Klonopin.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” Panettiere’s rep said in a statement.

No cause of death has been released so far, though police have now confirmed that there was ‘no foul play or suspicious circumstances…
