Tempus Fugitive: Will WHO’s ‘CIRCUIT BREAKER’ make time fly..?

Is the new Doctor Who project an early Christmas present or a simple stop-gap? Only Time (Lord) will tell…

There’s very little new information about the future of Doctor Who beyond the promise of a Christmas Special this year. At most we know that Russell T Davies is penning the story, but we don’t know what the story is or even who will be playing the Doctor. (There’s a presumption that Billie Piper will feature prominently – having appeared at the end of Ncuti Gatwa’s regeneration scene – but many people feel like the actor is a placeholder / mayfly version of the Doctor and that a true successor has yet to be found (or, at least, announced). Filming of that Special seems unlikely to begin before the Autumn/Fall.

But there are attempts to keep it in the public eye, or at least have something for the fanbase to enjoy while they wait for more news.

Circuit Breaker – first announced last year – follows in the wake of other Doctor Who multimedia efforts (the expansive Timelord Victorius and Doom’s Day stories that covered screen, comic and book form in an interconnected story). This time we’ll see chapters in the likes of Titan ComicsDoctor Who MagazineBBC AudiobooksEast Side GamesPuffinBBC Books and makers of the wider stream of audio adventures, Big Finish.

The latest project, in the same vein as the previous multimedia events, actually features the ‘Fugitive Doctor’ incarnation personified by Jo Martin. Though there was some consternation about the nature of her introduction as a previously unknown version of the Time Lord, one that somehow predates the Hartnell era if you believe the current status quo, the actual performance and design met with general approval – to the extent that one might consider that she really could or even should be in the running to take over the role full-time?

The press release states…

“In the depths of UNIT’s most secure facility, the Black Archive, familiar objects have been pulled through time and space surrounded with a dangerous energy signature threatening to tear reality apart. With time running out, newly appointed Head of the Black Archive, Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) and her assistant Andrew (Omari Douglas) turn to the only person who can help… the Doctor (Jo Martin). This is no ordinary crisis, and not the Time Lord they are familiar with. As the Doctor confronts her most infamous enemies such as the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans and a rogue Weeping Angel, she is forced to complete a mission with an insidious presence lurking in the shadows.  Secrets begin to surface, and trust between UNIT and the Doctor begins to erode as those who idolise her start to question if she really is the Time Lord they thought they knew…”

The mission begins on the UNIT website and there’s more info below (click to embiggen) and also  HERE…
