D23: MARVEL turns its VISION on for last part of its ‘trilogy’…
The complicated journey of the ‘Vision’ character (played by Paul Bettany) in the MCU has been a… unique one in the MCU. Created by blending the talents of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, the technology of the robot Jarvis and the Soul Stone Infinity Gem, the character became an incredibly powerful member of the Avengers. But ((SPOILERS… obviously…) he was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
His essence was brought back by his love Wanda Maximoff (in WandaVision one of Marvel‘s first projects under its Disney+ deal) but Wanda’s powers were going astray and it was revealed that her magicks were unstable and that this version of the Vision was a mere emotional echo of what she had lost. However, a fully-physical replication but blank slated (and monochromatic) version of the Vision survived and found himself imbued with all the original Vision’s memories at the end of that show and Wanda apparently met her demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
It’s been a while but Marvel and Disney+ will be completing their proposed trilogy (technically including Agatha All Along given its links to Vision/Wanda’s ‘sons’) with VisionQuest which will debut on 14th October. Marvel released the official trailer at the D23 event.
The series will include several characters we’ve come to know, albeit in different forms. James Spader will reprise the role of Ultron, though we will also see him in human avatar form, giving Spader full permission to play the wry, sinister roles for which he is often best known.
The new chapter will see Vision try to work out exactly who he is now with virtual help from the F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron personalities buried in his subconscious. When he finds out that the ‘children’ he has with Wanda may actually have survived beyond the illusions he perceived them to be, a new quest is set in motion…
