SDCC NEWS: David Jonsson takes long walk to be next BLACK PANTHER…

Marvel has announced their formal plans for the next Black Panther movie.

We already knew that Ryan Coogler was returning for the third time to direct (and bringing with him friend and collaborator Denzel Washington in an unnamed role) but until now we didn’t know who would be playing the main role. Chadwick Boseman essayed the role of Prince/King T’Challa and the title hero in the first acclaimed outing but sadly the actor passed away from cancer after the film was released. In the second film, Wakanda Forever, the mantle was taken up by his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) in T’Challa’s memory. At the end of the film, it was shown that T’Challa had had a secret son with Lupita Nyong’o’s character Nakia… and that’s how the next film will proceed. The character was referred to as Toussaint, though also known as T’Challa, like his father.

David Jonsson (who recently appeared in the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk and also appeared as Gus Sackey in HBO’s Industry) will play the grown-up son.

During the SDCC announcement, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke – who plays as M’Baku (and both of whom will also appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday) also joined Coogler, Marvel Studios supremo Kevin Feige and Jonsson onstage.

Black Panther III is currently set to be released on 15th December 2028…
