SDCC NEWS: MARVEL hails Ryan Gosling as their new GHOST RIDER…

There have been long-lasting rumours surrounding the possibility of a new Ghost Rider movie from Marvel and with SDCC underway, it’s now official.

Marvel Studios will release the latest version of their character in 2028. The character is the alter-ego of stuntman/bike-rider Johnny Blaze who makes an ill-fated deal with the devil in an effort to save his father’s life… but then finds himself caught in an eternal contract in which he shares his body with  the demon Zarathos, complete with fiery face, flaming motorcyle and a ‘penance stare’ that can send unfortunates to Hell itself.

Famously (infamously?) Nic Cage played the character in two movies (2007’s Ghost Rider and 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance which collectively earned more than $360M worldwide.). Ghost Rider also appeared in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD series, though this was another incarnation of the ‘Spirit of Vengeance‘ Robbie Reyes (played by The Last of Us‘ Gabriel Luna).

For this latest big screen incarnation, the  Johnny Blaze character will be essayed by… Ryan Gosling.

Gosling’s latest movie is the acclaimed Project Hail Mary (though he’s equally well known as ‘Ken’ in the Barbie movie and one of the stars of La La Land… and he’ll be the lead in the next Star Wars movie – Star Wars: Starfighter – which is being directed by Sean Levy and is due for release on 28th May 2027.  Levy will also be directing the new Ghost Rider.

There’s no news as to whether this will be a reinvention of the character from the ground up or whether there will be any tangible links to existing screen stories.
