SDCC: HALL H meets its Doomsday (and Deadpool)…

One of the biggest panels at this year’s SDCC was Marvel‘s presentation to promote Avengers: Doomsday . The studio –  represented by Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers – brought out a huge number of their ensemble Avengers  cast including Paul Rudd, Winston Duke, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Anthony Russo, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Pedro Pascal, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Tenoch Huerta.

“2019 was a very long time ago,” Feige said to the crowd. “The world’s a different place. But reminding all of us what it was like to be in that theater, cheering along and enjoying that crazy enthusiasm, is why we’re rereleasing Avengers: Endgame on September 25.”

The rerelease will boast brand new footage that will help it link to the new movie.

Exclusive footage was shown to the room of Doom using classic Sentinel robots and with members of the X-Men using their powers to stop them. Doom is shown flinging Thor aside and Susan Storm explaining how much ‘Victor’ has lost and what likely motivates his quest. Promotional Doctor Doom masks and cloaks were handed out to the 7000 attendees in Hall H. (“It’s not easy being green,” Downey told the crowd. “I need a lot of help. I need this whole family around me to finally assist me in being an arch-enemy, which is daunting.”)

An ‘unexpected’ guest was a familiar figure in the crowd, though Deadpool/Ryan Reynolds was wearing the grey uniformed version of the character rather than red and black. The cast was first asked ‘Why was Thor crying?‘ (referencing an image seen on screen during Deadpool and Wolverine in which the God of Thunder can be seen cradling an apparently lifeless Deadpool). Paul Rudd suggested the reason for the tears was because Thor was a fan of Wrexham (a meta-burn given Reynolds’ association with the UK football team). ‘Deadpool’ then asked when filming on Doomsday was due to start and was apparently perturbed when he found out it was already done – indicating no appearance for the ‘Merc with the Mouth’. (Though we wouldn’t bet against him appearing somehow).
