SDCC: Will Flanagan’s CARRIE mini-series prove another haunting hit?

Mike Flanagan probably has the one of the most envious careers in the horror genre. His The Haunting of Hill House is a mini-series masterclass and benchmark in a carefully constructed, multi-layered story-telling architecture and the follow-up The Haunting of Bly Manor (different story and characters but similar cast) was nothing to be sneezed at.

Equally, productions like The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass and the Fall of the House of Usher cemented his tv credentials. On the big-screen he’s given us Absentia, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck.

He’s made no secret – through interviews and his choice of productions – about his love for Stephen King and the next project will see is Amazon’s forthcoming mini-series adaptation of Carrie (based on King’s 1994 novel). It’s the fourth time that the novel has been adapted for the screen (perhaps most famously in 1976 with Sissy Spacek and an adequate remake with Chloe Grace Moretz in 2013) but this latest version is getting a lot of interest.

Amazon announced the project for Amazon Prime Video in 2024, with Flanagan chosen as an obvious, ideal showrunner (with Stephen King joining as an executive producer). It received a series order in April 2025 and began filming in the latter half of 2025.

Summer H. Howell plays the title character, Carrie White, a teenage girl who has spent most of her life in the zealot-like shadow of her over-protective mother. Finally attending high school after the death of her father, she begins to realise that puberty is bringing forth telekinetic powers.  Mercilessly bullied by some of her peers, it’s only a matter of time before those powers become more overt and dangerous and a confrontation with the people who hurt her is inevitable.

This new series also stars  Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard.

The teaser video for the mini-series was launched at SDCC and  all eight episodes of Carrie are planned to premiere on 7th October, 2026 on Amazon Prime Video.
