Ready or Not: Have MARVEL cast an early FROST?

Oh, what tangled webs we weave when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this case we’re not talking Spider-man and his Brand New Day but the casting process of the long-gestating X-Men reboot… in particular Australian actress Samara Weaving.

Though that X-Men reboot is still a way away – likely to be 2028 at the earliest – the word is that the first (possibly second 🙂 ?) role to be cast could be that of Emma Frost. Though better known as an X-Men character through the comics rather than the screen, the character has been around since the 1980s. At first, Frost – aka the White Queen – was a ruthless but glamorous villain and senior member of the Hellfire Club. However, over the years the character has shifted… she’s still the queen of snark, with a figure-revealing range of top-class haut couture and with a very fluid guide to pragmatism/morality, but she’s proven a major force to be reckoned with. A Professor X-level telepath and with the ability to generate a diamond-level hard skin, she’s  been romantically-linked with the powerful and mighty of the Marvel firmament. She was part of a power couple with Scott Summers when he was estranged from the dead/not dead/maybe dead Jean Grey, married (as part of a secret undercover deception) to Tony Stark and sat at the same table as the likes of Doctor Doom and Namor.

On screen she’s been portrayed by Finola Hughes in the mid-90s series Generation X, Tahyna Tozzi in a throwaway role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and a more comics-accurate version was essayed by January Jones in X-Men: First Class.

Samara Weaving made an impact in the Ready or Not horror movies and has also appeared in the likes of Scream VI, Babylon, GI Joe: Snake Eyes, Bill & Ted Face the Music and in the tv series Nine Perfect Strangers.

Marvel haven’t formally confirmed the casting, but industry site Deadline seems fairly sure of the news and Weaving has certainly been a popular choice with fans for some time.
