Bat to the Future: Matt Reeves’ sequel faces another delay…
Those waiting for the arrival of The Batman – Part II – once again to be directed by the original film’s Matt Reeves – will have to be patient for a bit longer than planned. The release date was originally scheduled for 2nd October 2026 but slipped by a whole year to 1st October 2027 due to delays in the start of filming. Now it’s going to be later still… with the latest date being 18th February 2028.
DC Studios‘ James Gunn had previously stated that lengthy releases between big-budget franchise films are now ‘fairly common’ (though his citing of seven years between Alien and Aliens‘, fourteen years between the Incredibles movies, seven years between the first two Terminator films seems to be somewhat conveniently selective) and there’s no hiding the fact that it will be nearly six years between the release of The Batman and Part II in what was touted as a trilogy tracing the early years of Bruce Wayne’s crime-fighting.
The supporting cast for the sequel includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch.
The news of the delay came with one brief counterpoint, the first footage from the film, albeit a brief sequence where star Robert Pattinson – in full Bat costume – turns to camera. (See below)
