Encore? $pider-man to get BRAND NEWER (PAY)DAY?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before… but when a movie makes an absolute record-breaking amount of money… why not release it again with a little extra footage to make even MORE profit?

This time we’re not talking about Avengers: Endgame Encore (which has been in multiplexes for less than a week and posted very respectable numbers for what is essentially a film with barely four extra minutes of footage to add to its near two and a half hour running time)…

No, the latest entry in this perhaps-not-elite club could be… Spider-man: Brand New Day which has been breaking a few records itself. Currently still playing in cinemas across the globe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a collective box-office within sniffing distance of $2.5 billion and is SONY‘s highest-ever ranking movie. It’s original running-time was 2 hours and 25 minutes.

Significant rumours (via respected industry sites like Deadline) come that Marvel Studios is considering re-releasing a version of the film with some extra footage. Early word promises ‘more surprises’ and there are suggestions that among the scenes might be an unused sequence that Rosario Dawson mentioned in a recent interview. She had admitted she was disappointed that her character Claire Temple aka ‘the Night Nurse’ (who treats an injured Peter Parker) was a scene ultimately cut from the finished film.  Dawson/Temple has previously been seen as a character in the Netflix era of the Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage series and their collective spinoff The Defenders. Beyond that, we don’t know of any specifics as to what the footage would be or how many minutes it would involve.

When would that rerelease happen? There’s no official confirmation from Marvel or SONY yet of it happening at all, but it seems a fairly solid income model given the Endgame results and the Brand New Day success itself. If it does, it could well be in the normally quieter realms of early next year, once the Avengers: Doomsday bandwagon has had its primary bite at the box-office.

Whatever way you look at it… with the Hulk, Doomsday and Loki imagery currently doing the rounds, Marvel‘s favourite colour is definitely green.
