MUTINY: Is there a bounty on Statham (trailer)…
As with our recent review of Jason Statham’s most recent release SHELTER, (on streaming now and on DVD at the end of April) you know the basics of what to expect from a film starring the British action star.
Statham’s next theatrical release will be MUTINY, heading to US cinemas in August. He’ll be playing Cole Reed, a Special Forces veteran and former police officer (is it me or does Statham wearing a traditional British police officer’s helmet look so… wrong?). He is onboard a large tanker when his boss is murdered and he’s framed for the killing. Determined to find out what and why the vessel is smuggling an unfortunate cargo, Cole has to survive the ship being boarded and the highly-trained operatives attempting to hunt him down. truth after being framed for murder.
It feels a little like Die Hard on a Ship (Under Siege?) and has some resemblance to a once-proposed sequel to the Gerard Butler 2023-released hijack film PLANE (in which the action was to transfer to a ship). That seems more than a small coincidence given that it’s the same director Jean-François Richet and that the script comes from J.P. Davis, who wrote the script for Richet’s Plane, teamed up with Lindsay Michel (the latter also worked on PLANE).
Statham’s co-stars include Annabelle Wallis, Jason Wong, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester.
