Reanimation: Marvel Zombies to rise again…..
You can’t keep a good corpse down, or so it would seem at Marvel. Disney+ havenow semi-confirmed there will be another season of Marvel Zombies. The animated series follows the repercussions when a zombie plague breaks out and some of the world’s best heroes fall… and rise again. Ultimately, the infection spreads out not just across the globe but potentially ac ross the multiverse.
Though there’s been no official press release on the matter, Marvel Television Head Brad Winderbaum appeared on The Escape Pod Podcast and confirmed a second season
“I don’t think it’s a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies season 2 this morning. It was crazy, I can’t say anything about it, but it delivers not just on like zombies, but also on like an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we’re very excited to do.”
The series was originally spawned by the ideas presented by Mark Millar in the pages of his Ultimate Fantastic Four in 2005. The story was received so well that Marvel Comics subsequently launched Marvel Zombies as a limited series comic written by Robert Kirkman (of The Walking Dead fame) with art by Sean Phillips and covers by Arthur Suydam. Since then, the concept has spread like the undead virus itself and had various other entries across the Marvel range. The on-screen animated version differs a little in story but retains some of the bloody approach from the printed page (so perhaps not recommended for the youngest Marvelites) and the scenario means that even fan-favourites can reach a grisly end.
There were four episodes in the first season, ending with main character Kamala Khan reluctantly entering into a pact with a resurrected Wanda Maximoff to save the world (but with the revelation Kamala had been tricked). It isn’t known yet how many episodes there will be in the next run. Given that the show is now already in production but that it takes more time for the animation to be completed, expect a release sometime in 2027…
